Happy New Year RACA fam!

Can you believe it? Another year gone. I swear the older I get the faster time does fly. And with this being the year of my big 4-0 (yeah man, I’m going to be 40! smh, I still tryin fe wrap my head around it LOL) I’m sure that, before I turn around two times, we’ll be getting ready for another new year celebration.

That’s why I’ve decided that my mantra for this year is BIG TINGS A GWAN! Enough with the planning, contemplating and endless discussion about what I want to do. Is time fe DO. Like the wise 90’s era philospher Redman once said, “Time 4 sum, time 4 sum aksion!

Don’t get me wrong, I’m a big proponent of researching, double-checking and cross-referencing. But, due to fear and insecurity, I can easily get stuck in that pattern and never actually execute whatever it is that I’m planning. Well no more. Both personally and professionally, it’s time to just do the damn thing!

What does that mean for RACA? It means new content each week, new segments that dig deep into different areas of the Caribbean-American experience. More guest writers so we can explore other POV’s of the hyphen life. We’ll also be partnering with other Caribbean and Caribbean-American writers, activists and tastmakers on exciting new events and initiatives.

I don’t want to give it all away. Trus’ me nuh! RACA in 2014 is gonna be doing some serious damage. Stick around and watch de ride. Better yet join the crew! Write someting, vlog someting, say someting nuh! The Caribbean-American experience is one of the most unique, interesting and exciting experiences to be had. We roll deep out in dese streets and need as many of our voices represented as possible.

I’ll leave you with a likkle soul music to get you in the right frame of mind as you move through your day. Check Kindred the Family Soul’s MY TIME. I caught them at SOB’s the other night with a couple of girlfriends and this song just really spoke to my mindset as I entered the new year. I hope it motivates and moves you the way it did me.

Catch you later party peoples! When you miss me, I gone!
