2018 marks RACA’s 10th anniversary in the blogosphere. Back in 2008 I got an itch to share my thoughts on what being a child of Caribbean immigrants in America is like. I scratched out a corner of the world wide web in which to share the smack and stories I’d been trading with my friends and RACA was born.
I didn’t really have a plan for this thing. These days folks start blogs with a business plan, social media strategy and sponsorship pitches all lined up. Blogging is serious business now. Back then I just knew that I liked to write and that Caribbean-American culture, what it is, what it means and how it manifests itself, was the topic I wanted to explore.
As I look back over the years, I feel pride for the work I’ve done here. The posts made people laugh, think or just enabled me to get something off of my chest. Also the the collaborations and opportunities this platform has brought me have been priceless.
In turn, I also recognize how much more I could have done in these past ten yrs. How my penchant for procrastination and various life struggles have kept me from making this space all it could be. But as I stated in another post, the start of a new year is the perfect time for me to take stock and start over. With ten years of life lessons, self-reflection and cultural connections under my belt, RACA and I are ready to embrace the blessings & lessons that 2018 has in store for us.
